Tell us a bit about yourself

When I was a child, I always aspired to follow the footsteps of my brother Dr. Virsen J. Ruparel, who not only served the diseased patients and their families but the entire medical fraternity with utmost humility and dedication. Hence, soon after my D.M.L.T (Diploma in Medical Lab Technology), I joined the Molecular Medicine group, where I was responsible for various diagnostic assays during my extensive tenure of Nine years. It was during this tenure that I completed my Masters in Microbiology (by Research) through Mumbai university affiliated RLS.

My associations with Roche Diagnostics India that is helping me to constantly tread on my ideal’s path.

Whenever I manage to sneak away some spare time from the daily chores of office and home, I get into dress designing and doing some hand embroidery and art work on sarees and dresses. And when my siblings Khyati and Harshad Ruparel catch me with my hobby, they advise me to switch from Medical world to Fashion world ;)!

Where did you study?

Thanks to the extensive support of my family I was privileged to receive education from some of the finest school (Auxilium Convent, Wadala) and colleges. I completed my graduation in Microbiology and Biochemistry from S.I.E.S College, Sion; and post that I completed my Masters in Microbiology. Additionally, I have also done my Diploma in Medical Lab Technology from Medical college of L.T.M.G Hospital, Sion.

What can you tell us about the location you work at?

Since mine is more of field work, I do not commute to the same place or route daily. But whenever, I am not on field or not on tour, my commute to office is very smooth and pleasant…special thanks to the pick and drop facility by my husband Nikhil Mehta. We commute together on bike through the greenery of Aarey colony. Commuting together not only makes my journey comfortable but we also get more time together from the hectic routines.

Why did you decide to join Roche?

During my tenure of nine years as a Research Scientist, I always heard of Roche as a synonym for “Accurate disease diagnosis and prognosis”. Hence, when the time came to turn tables from being in laboratory and work towards patient care to being associated with multiple labs and partner with them for Best Patient Care and management; then there was no other name and place better than Roche.

What is your current job?

In Roche, my core responsibility is to extend technical and scientific support to the Molecular Diagnostics and Applied Sciences end-users. Along with the routine training and troubleshooting related support, I also assist the end-users in developing new parameters and protocols for their specific needs, thus offering customized solutions from to various laboratories. Since I cater to the entire western zone of India, I get tremendous opportunities to meet lot of researchers, understand their projects and offer solutions from Roche that will help them in transforming their hypothesis to real laboratory data. Additionally, I get ample chances to work hand in hand with the Sales and Marketing colleagues to conduct educational programs such as CMEs, workshops, seminars and other scientific gatherings.
